How to choose a research topic, a scientific supervisor, and obtain a departmental recommendation for admission to PhD studies

The selection of a dissertation topic and a prospective scientific supervisor is based on the research directions of the academic staff of the Department of Computer Engineering. You can familiarize yourself with these research areas on the department’s official website:

After analyzing the materials, a prospective applicant may contact the Head of the Department, the person responsible for PhD studies at the department, or directly a potential scientific supervisor. The person responsible for PhD studies at the Department of Computer Engineering is Associate Professor Valentyna Vasylivna Tkachenko.

Together with the chosen scientific supervisor, the applicant prepares a research proposal justifying the chosen direction of scientific research. This proposal is reviewed at a departmental meeting with the participation of members of the Academic and Methodological Commission (AMC), where the relevance and перспективність of the chosen topic are analyzed, as well as its alignment with the supervisor’s research direction and scientific output.

Approval of the intention to apply for PhD studies and assignment of a scientific supervisor at the department

Before submitting documents to the PhD Admissions Office, the applicant must complete the procedure of agreeing on the research proposal at the department. To obtain approval for PhD admission, the applicant must prepare the following documents together with the prospective scientific supervisor:

• research proposal;
• motivation letter.

The research proposal is reviewed at a departmental meeting. Based on the review, the applicant receives approval for PhD admission and the assignment of a scientific supervisor for the future research work.

On the basis of the departmental decision, the Application for the appointment of a scientific supervisor is signed by the prospective supervisor and the Head of the Department.
