The role of the discipline in the system of training specialists in computer engineering, computer systems, and networks is determined by the fact that peripheral devices of computer systems are an essential component. Accordingly, knowledge of their structure, the organization of interaction and information exchange between them, as well as the ability to programmatically control their operation, is an important factor in the efficiency of computer systems.

The significance of the discipline lies in the necessity for specialists in computer systems and networks to acquire theoretical knowledge of the principles of design, configuration, and programming of modern peripheral devices, as well as practical skills in debugging and managing the operation of peripheral devices.

The aim of teaching the discipline is to present modern scientific concepts, notions, and principles of designing and controlling peripheral devices, methods and technologies of their programming, as well as the organization of their effective interaction within computer systems and networks.
